Outside and In, or Inside Out

My exhibit “Outside and in, or Inside Out: The Life of Lati” consist of art works that signify the way people perceive me on the outside, my outward character and personality. Other works describe and illustrate the traits and emotions I hide on the inside, feelings or deep thoughts. These works include paintings, sculptures, and ancient artifacts that I have discovered during my time at the Metropolitan Museum .I created this as way to compare the perceptions of myself from other people and also to invite others into my mind , my heart, and my life.
Best Friend Perception:Rubenstein, Bradley. Untitled (Girl with Puppy Dog Eyes). 1996. Photographs. Www.metmuseum.org. Web. 4 Dec. 2012.

*This was chosen because I was told my eyes were my way out of trouble. Often times one could tell my problems through the sadness in my eyes.  The eyes of the young girl in the painting seem sad and uneasy. In my case, as I have gotten older my eyes still big, but my pain nor anger, is easily revealed.

Fragonard, Jean Honoré. Young Woman Reading. : Later 1770s. European Paintings. Www.metmuseum.org. Web. 4 Dec. 2012.
*This young woman can represent me in a sense because my friends see me as intellectual, beautiful young woman who indeed does enjoy reading. This woman looked so intrigued as if she is reading a mystery or even a love story. Her face shows much hope and unawareness of things going on around her.

Fund,, Rogers. Gold Necklace with Crescent-shaped Pendant. 1st–3rd Century A.D. Www.metmuseum.org. Web. 4 Dec. 2012.

“Gold necklace with crescent-shaped pendant” represents my sense of style because I love accessories. Whether I am wearing sweatpants and sneakers or a lovely dress and pumps, I always have to wear a necklace or a pair of earrings.
Acquaintance Perception:

Klossowsk, Balthazar. Girl at a Window. 1938. Www.metmuseum.org. Web. 4 Dec. 2012.
*“Girl at a Window by Balthus (Balthazar Klossowski) is used to compliment my open minded attitude. I always look at the many options when taking on a task or even when trying to come up with a plan. The young girl is staring at the window showing her interest at what is taking place in the outside world rather than staying in the house.

Klossowski, Balthazar. Thérèse Dreaming. 1938. Paintings. Www.metmuseum.org. Web. 4 Dec. 2012.
*Thérèse Dreaming” also by Balthus (Balthazar Klossowski) shows another young girl lying back in a chair as she appears to be day dreaming. I am known to get lost in thought while others are conversing. Often times it is because I have a lot on my mind. Other times I am planning what my next step in life is going to be, whether it is for the next minute, day, or even month.

Smith, Margaret Tasher. Tiara. 1910–29. American or European. Www.metmuseum.org. Web. 4 Dec. 2012.

This can be used to show my elegant and mature attitude when I am dressing up to go somewhere. I was told that I should have been a princess because I was and always have been spoiled growing up. This tiara has beautiful metal and glass detailing with green leaves and studded flowers blooming from the base of the tiara. This tiara is so beautiful and shows that the creator of such an accessory really took the time to bring out its beauty.

My Perception:

Castiglione, Giovanni Francesco. A Congress of Animals. 1641–1710. Drawings and Prints. Www.metmuseum.org. Web. 4 Dec. 2012.
* This work shows my admiration for animals. I feel that they are such beautiful and interesting creatures who are all distinctive in their own way. The way the animals though all different are standing side by side as if they do not know the meaning or prey and predator.

Rubens, Peter Paul. Venus and Adonis. : Mid- or Late 1630s. European Paintings. Www.metmuseum.org. Web. 4 Dec. 2012.
* This art work shows the love and concern that Venus has for Adonis’s wellbeing. Helping her to keep him close, you can see cupid holding onto Adonis’s leg signifying the love she has for him. I see myself as a very loving person and I care for the wellbeing of others.

Gauguin, Paul. Tahitian Faces (Frontal View and Profiles). Ca. 1899. Drawings. Www.metmuseum.org. Web. 4 Dec. 2012.
*The three different profiles of the woman’s face shows how I tend to look at situations that I am facing. I tend to look at each perspective of the party involved rather than just being close minded and sticking to my own opinion.
My Emotional Side:

Dove, Arthur. Sentimental Music. Ca. 1913. Drawings. Www.metmuseum.org. Web. 4 Dec. 2012.
* When feeling down I often listen to music and then write poems to express how I feel. Often times I create my own pieces of music that describe the emotion I am feeling at the time. This drawing I would say describes me very well when it comes to nonverbally expressing how I feel.

, Judit. Outburst. 1956. Paintings. Www.metmuseum.org. Web. 4 Dec. 2012.
*I chose this because it is pretty self-explanatory. The way she spread the colors across the canvas as if it were pieces of shattered glass describes my attitude and times of anger. Sometimes unknowingly I become very standoffish when angry because I do not like to express how I feel. On the inside however I feel the need to scream and let out the steam that is built up inside of me.

Drouais, François Huber. Boy with a House of Cards. 1965. Www.metmuseum.org. Web. 4 Dec. 2012.

.*I chose this work because though I am not a young, as a young girl and still today, I enjoy exploring my creativity. The young boy seems very happy and proud of the building he has created. This is the same feeling I enjoy experiencing with creating my own works of art, from music, poetry, down to making my own jewelry from parts of old accessories.
