Field Trip #5
When looking at this statue the first thing I get remeinded of is well of course, Federick Douglass himself. I always admired having the same last name as a former slave with the same ethnicity as myself. Also because Federick Douglass has changed the lives of many around the world. He is also a great author. Gabriel Koren was born in hungary and has been sculpting many African American leaders and thinkers since she moved to New York City. This statue is placed on Frederick Douglass Boulevard and Cathedral Parkway, Manhattan for all to see and indule in its meaningful beauty. Nomatter the place, I do not believe that I would have percieved this statue any other way than for what it is. She is known for also sculpting Malcolm X in granite. I find this piece well deserved as well as inspiring.
