*When visiting the Chelsea galleries I found that not each gallery was the same. The assignment this week was to choose two works of art , one that we would buy as an art collector and one we would not. I decided to choice a work of art from the Lyon Weir Gallery . If I were an art collector, my work of choice would be "Sovereign" -Aaron Nagel. When viewed with a closed mind this art Is shown with just a naked woman sitting on a chair posing, To one with an open mind it is so much more. I would choose this because I believe that the beauty of a woman should and can be expressed in many ways. Woman are sometimes afraid to express themselves in many ways, this painting shows a woman with courage and confidence to say "this is me , this is who I am". I found out that "Sovereign " expresses Nagels admiration for oil paintings , it's medium, and traditions which helped him to create the female form.
"The nude does not simply represent the body, but relates it, by analogy, to all structures that have become part of our imaginative experience." (Kenneth Clark, The Nude: A Study in Ideal Form)
Aaron Nagel: Triumph, 2012
Oil on canvas, 38 x 62 inches
_*Being an art collector also means being able to depict which works would be more profitable if shown and which aren't. one work that is an example of such is one shown in the Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery. The exhibition is called "BUILDING" in which it contains a variety of large bricks that I found had no significance. It just made me feel that something is incomplete. I do not believe that the artist makes much of a good investment but then again some could never really tell. I for one would not show such in my gallery if I actually had one. If that was the case I could just take some leaved and twigs from outside and create my own exhibition.
